Our Programs

One Planet DC is an umbrella initiative for the One Planet Communities and One Planet City programs managed by BioRegional North America, operating as a project of the Tides Center with the generous support of philanthropists Roger and Vicki Sant of the Summit Fund of Washington.

Both programs are framed by the Ten One Planet Principles.

One Planet Communities Program

Forward-thinking real estate developers are creating some of America's most advanced green neighborhoods right here in the nation's capital, in partnership with BioRegional. We are an agile non-profit with strong international consulting expertise creating and executing Sustainability Action Plans.

Not every development we work with are ultimately willing to commit to all our ambitious targets. Those that do exemplify visionary leadership and social responsibility, and qualify for endorsement as official One Planet Communities - joining an elite network of market-defining sustainable developments around the world.

One Planet City Program

One Planet Cities is a long-term planning framework for sustainable urban development to propagate the achievements of the neighborhood demonstration projects city-wide. Our vision is to make an 80% ecological footprint reduction practical (and even convenient) for all DC residents to achieve - without sacrificing prosperity or modern comforts.
